With spiritual understanding “good word” represents the word, “gospel” we hear over and over. The word “gospel” is derived from an old English word, “god spell”, which literally means “good words”. “Spell” signifies a group of words, and not a single word. In the current form of English “spell” can also imply “time” and “words”. It can be said, “we can rest for a spell”, resting for a short ime or the time of a few words. We can practice spelling or wording in school. It can be as an incantation in superstition. Gospel literally means “good words”. As you trace the translation of the word “gospel” in the scriptures back in the Greek you will find “euaggelizo” and “euaggelion” derived from two Greek words “eu” and “aggelos” or “aggelo”. “Eu” meaning good. Our word “eulogy” comes from “eu” and “logos” meaning the “good words we speak over a person who died”. “Aggelo” means to declare or announce. A similiar word in Greek is “aggelos”, in which is transliterated into English “angel”, despite “aggelos” very clearly meaning “messenger” or “one who announces”. When the word “angel” in found in the “writings of the prophets” and “writings of the apotolos”, its true meaning is “messenger”, and not some winged creature. So the Greek when it is translated “gospel” is found to be in the Greek language closely asociated with a messenger announcing good. The “announcing of good” becomes “good spell” or “good word” as it relates to the message.
In the Hebrew language in Isaiah 52 where the words are translated “good news” we find the Hebrew words for this announcing “a good thing”, “ha basar”. Basar is a word closely associated with flesh and life. I find a most close meaning to the Hebrew word is “life”. The prophet speaks a message of life, or in the Greek, a message of good, and the English a “good spell” or good word” or the “gospel” The prophet in Isaiah spoke his words originally to Yudah in captivity in Babylon. His words were contrary to the false prophets of his day who were telling the people of Yudah to remain in Babylon, in the place of death and judgment, rather than to ever have hope to return to the land. The prophet’s words, the words of God, were words of hope and life and good toward the people. The people, if they held to the contrary words of the false prophets, would perish in the judgment of Babylon at the end of the 70 years of captivity. How much more so do the words prophesy of the Christ, who is Yeshua of Nazareth. For this reason gospel, good spell, good word, good news and life are all the same in spiritual understanding when declaring the one true gospel. The one true gospel is God’s word. The one true gospel is good news. The one true gospel is life. Yeshua the Mashiach is the sum of all things.
I say all this, so there will be spiritual understanding when I use the word gospel. I say that there is only one gospel. I agree with the words of Paul in Galatians:
” I marvel that you are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel, which is not another, but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of the Christos. But though we or a messenger from heaven preach any other gospel unto you that that we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED! (as it is written in the scriptures of the prophets) As we said before so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that you have received, LET HIM BE ACCURSED! (as it is written)
There is one gospel, and only one gospel ,and it is witnessed to be so by the testimony of two. By Yeshua, the Son of God, raised from the dead, seated at the right hand of God the Father in Luke 24:
“O fools and slow of heart to believe ALL that the prophets have spoken, ought not the Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory? And beginning at Moshah and all the prophets he expounded unto them in all the scriptures (Tanach) the things concerning HIMSELF.”
“These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that ALL things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moshah, and in the prophets, and in the psalms CONCERNING ME. Then opened He their understanding that they might understand the scriptures (Old Testament), and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day.”
By Paul the apostolos:
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that the Christ died for sins according to the scriptures, He was buried and He rose again the third day according to the writings of the prophets.”
And this is the gospel that Peter, James and John gave the right hand of fellowship to in Gal 2. Thus by their agreement all the apostolos were in agreement. So we have the witness of the Son of God, Yeshua, and the witness of the twelve apostolos that the one true gospel they preach as well as I is sure and true. The one true gospel is the Mashiach, Yeshua of Nazareth, died for our sins according to the Old Testament, He was buried and He rose again the third day according to the Old Testament.
All who disagree with this one true gospel and do not rejoice that the one true gospel is preached are of their father the false accuser, and know not the spirit they stand in. For it is most certainly not the Spirit of the Father who zealously rejoices in the the one true gospel wherever it is preached.
